We caught up with Blair to learn more about her and what she’ll be covering this month. Here’s a quick Q&A to get some more information.
Hi Blair, welcome to Bullish Society as our June Expert-in-Residence! Tell us a little about yourself.
Thanks! In a nutshell, I’m a Professional Book Person™: by day, I’m an editor at Quirk Books in Philadelphia, where I acquire and develop 6–8 titles a year across fiction and non-fiction, with a focus on “books for cool, ambitious feminists with a sense of humor.” Some of my recent and upcoming books include Crafting with Feminism; Basic Witches: How to Summon Success, Banish Drama, and Raise Hell with your Coven; Geekerella; and The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy. By night, I’m an author of YA novels (my début Who’s That Girl will be out next month from HarperTeen!) and picture books. I’m also just a few short weeks away from receiving my MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Hamline University. In my (admittedly very spare) spare time, I sing sea chanties and go to Renaissance faires (medieval studies major, what can you do).

Same here! I’m going to be covering the art of pushing for creative ideas you’re passionate about in a business setting when facing an ambivalent/skeptical team (a thing I do a lot as the lone Young Feminist Editor), and overview what it takes to go from “good idea” to “great book.”
