Throughout 2014 and 2015, I did 24 webinars – one each month – on topics from “Start Your Side Hustle” to “Aging with Panache” and “Be More Confident.” By far, the most popular topic was “Multiple Income Streams.” (One actual webinar title was “Lifestyle Design: Financial Freedom, Passive Income, Location Independence – and Silicon Valley Bullshit.)
Since Bullish came to life, we’ve helped a lot of women get from entry-level to badass. To be a bit more blunt: If you make $35,000 a year, making $50,000 will make an enormous difference in your life. If you make $50,000, making $100,000 will change everything.
Thus, the inaugural entry in our series of Multiple Income Streams guides: Affiliate Linking for $$$, by Lauren Orsini. A guide to starting a profitable side hustle with affiliate links – from a bullicorn who’s done it.
Author Lauren Orsini is a journalist and web developer in Arlington, Virginia. She specializes in explaining niche topics—anything from anime to hardware hacking—to wide audiences. Her latest articles can be found on Forbes and her latest book, Cosplay: The Fantasy World of Role Play, is available at Barnes & Noble.
This guide isn’t about making millions. It’s a very practical and readable guide to something that Lauren uses to make an extra $700 a month.
(By the way, I think affiliate links get a bad rap for one huge reason: many people who have tried affiliate linking run unprofitable blogs with readerships who are opposed to spending money on the site – on ANYTHING. If you run a blog about coding or baking or LARPing or giving museum tours or styling vintage clothes, that’s great, but it’s not a business. It’s ESPECIALLY not a business if it has a passionate following of people who like reading free blogs and get really mad when you try to sell something. Those people suck. They’re not your “loyal” fans. They don’t want you to be able to eat. This is not a guide about adding affiliate links to your blog, although that could be successful if your blog is about buying things. This is about starting a new project specifically as a new income stream.)
